Facts About the Yankees and People

The evolution of the new era baseball cap has been around since the 1920’s, so obviously the caps were improved throughout time. In the beginning after years of working hard to pursue his dream Ehrhardt Koch started his own cap manufacturing business in Buffalo New York. This became the new era baseball cap such as the Gatsby.

The Yankee Stadium is home to the Yankees (of course) but originally they were called the New York Highlanders. The reason they were called that was because they played in Washington Heights. Then in 1913 they changed the name to The Yankees and they played in the old stadium which is currently the park that across the street from the stadium.

In the Yankee Stadium Museum there is a wall of all the retired numbers like the number 3, which was the famous George Herman Ruth, Jr. better known as Babe Ruth. Babe is notorious for his home runs, like this one time Babe Ruth was in his thirties, and at the time no one lasted that long in the league, and they were playing against the Chicago Cubs and they started picking on him telling him that he’s too old, and your fat among other things. So they kept doing it until he had enough and when it was his turn to swing he pointed to a spot and he told the catcher that he was going to hit it in that spot. then when the pitcher threw his best fast ball Babe hit it where he pointed.

The Yankee Stadium has 54,251 seats in total and out of all those seats they have a way to commemorate Sonya Sotomayor which is one of the justices in the supreme court. In the stadium in every game there are 18 seats in the front row that no one can purchase because those seats they would pick random people from the crowd to sit in one of those 18 seats and they would give those people wigs, black gowns, and plastic torches and in the game they would announce all rise for the judge and all those people would rise with the wigs gowns torches.
My Personal Experience
My personal experience was great I got to see the museum and sit in the media box. I enjoyed the museum the most because I liked the whole exhibit of the “Perfect Game”. the visit was great the exhibits were amazing and the history about the field an the player were fascinating. I would rate this attraction like a 5/5 because the facts and the museum and history made the experience made it better. My advice to future visitors is to go for a tour and the experience would be fascinating.
The New York Transit Museum

I had the opportunity to come to the New York Transit Museum which is located in 99 Schermerhorn St, Brooklyn, NY. I got to see train carts and what they looked like in the 20’s, 50’s, 80’s and even 90’s into the early 2000’s. The whole train idea was originally presented in 1904 and those were elevated trains, which were trains that were above the street. Although some people didn’t take the trains they just stayed with their horse carts.
Highlights

- The evolution of trains, trains have significantly improved since they first been opened.
- the construction of subways, it took so many people to build tunnels underground that there must be appreciated.
- evolution of paying fare they went from five cents to metro cards even now they’re almost going to pay the fare digitally.
History

Driven by horses (it’s in the name) but there were cons to going places. that way like if you owned the horse (at the time people most likely owned the horse) you would have to take care of it, for example, like feed it, make sure it has good health, and make sure they get rest but the biggest con is how much they poop. horses poop very often and that would cause anywhere you go to stink, at the time streets would be covered in horse manure. So when the elevated trains came to the public most people went from carts to trains.

When the subway first came to the public it was run by two rival companies. Those companies were the B.R.T(letter trains) and the I.R.T(number trains) which stand for Brooklyn Rapid Transit and Interborough Rapid Transit and those companies were so competitive that they didn’t even put railroads near each other so then people would have to walk long distances if they wanted to transfer from number trains to letter trains and vice versa and after the I.R.T company built the number trains the B.R.T decided to build their trains bigger and now the letter trains can’t go in number train tunnels.

Turnstiles have been around since they decided that punching holes and waiting in line were inefficient. The evolution of the turnstile was a way for you to pay the fare without it taking up to much time, so you won’t be late for your train. In 1986 when the first turnstile was introduced it had slots for your token and the turnstile wouldn’t move if you did pay the fare.
My personal Experience
The experience was fantastic the tour guide had a lot of information about the type of trains and what was in them like the advertisements and the material the chairs were made out of. The trains were fascinating being on a cart made you feel like you were at that time period I would rate my experience 4.5/5. The experience was worth it. My advice to you is to book a tour of the history behind the trains which were fascinating.
The Staten Island Ferry

The secret of New York is the most obvious but still unknown, and that is the ferry!!! The are many ferries and they have different prices on a ferry to go to the same place but little people know is how the Staten Island Ferry is free. People would usually pay over twenty dollars just for it to do the same thing as any other ferry could’ve done. To get there you could just take the one all the way to the last stop, get off, and you should see a big signed that says “Staten Island Ferry”. Behind that, it’s Battery Park where there is a lot of history.
Highlights

While on the ferry you could see the famous statue of liberty which is known as a gift from France for helping them with world war II. It resembled that the city behind her was a safe place and that anyone is welcomed and this can be a new beginning for you here. When the industrial revolution era came to be and when people from all over the world started coming to New York for a better start.

On the ferry, you would see the Freedom Tower in the skyline. Which symbolizes what happened on that day where innocent people were killed and that cause a shake in the whole country.

From the ferry you can see the Brooklyn Bridge and there was actually a ferry before the Brooklyn bridge. When people wanted to go to Manhattan from Brooklyn and vice versa they would have to take the ferry. Luckily in 1969 they built the Brooklyn Bridge and they stopped the ferry because there was a bridge.
History

There was a deadly accident on the ferry in 2003. A man named Andrew J. Barberi was steering the ferry and he crashed on to the pier and killed 11 people and injured way more. it said that the pilot of the ship was left unconscious before the crash. Then the pilot escapes from the ship and tries to commit suicide by slitting his wrists, shooting himself twice with a pellet gun (BB gun) but after all that he still survived went to court and pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

The ferry was famous in the movie industry because of its iconic route and it would often be like a film backdrop for movies. it was featured in movies like 1987 Mike Nichols film called “Working Girl” the 2008 movie “The Dark Knight” with replicas of the Staten Island ferry. and shows like “law and Order” and “Law and Order: Criminal Intent”.

Around the time where ferries just been introduced men and women had separate parts on the ferry. It was basically so women can have a break from their husbands.
My Personal Experience
The ride on the ferry was great, all the highlights that I listed were the things I saw while going to Staten Island and back, and all for the price of zero dollars and zero cents I would definitely recommend it. I would rate it a 5/5 but I suggest you go when its warmer because I went went it was cold out and unless your on the side the sun is shining it would be too cold to even go out and take pictures of anything that I mentioned.
